Day 8- A Mixed Bag

The day started off not so great. Hannah was in a lot of pain and vomiting. She took pain meds this morning and alternated between getting sick and sleeping. She woke up just in time for our daily BINGO- I know, we sound silly- but we love Bingo every day. They broadcast it on CHOP TV and there is a different theme every day. You can win prizes- which we have won every time we have played. In the afternoon, she felt well enough to go for a walk and clear her head so in the beautiful weather- her siblings surprised her with a visit and a delivery of DOLE WHIP – which she loves and was able to keep down! Betty Rose came dressed as Minnie Mouse- which made Hannah smile- but Hannah was not at all happy about Minnie Mouse trying to steal the Dole Whip. It was great to see how a visit from her siblings can brighten Hannah’s spirits. Tonight we played Battleships- and she whipped my butt to her delight! The night was topped off by a surprise delivery of Insomnia Cookies- which she gobbled as they were delivered warm! At this point we are up to 26 lbs of traction. The weights are getting hard to lift as we lift them off of her in order to transition her from the bed to chair to walker, etc. If they are hard for me to lift- I can only imagine how hard they are for her to carry on her head. She has moments of frustration and feeling down but overall she has an amazing attitude. Tomorrow is a big day as we get a full spinal x-ray and we will know if the traction is working- and if so, to what extent. Hannah told her doctor today that it better be working because if she went through all of this for nothing- she is going to be really angry at him! – Jenean

  1. Sorry the day started out so miserable! But on the bright side one week done! Loved that the afternoon and evening were so special, spending time with your family sounds like just the right medicine to help you get over some of the rough times! Hoping for great news from the doctor today, and as always hoping for a day without sickness. Hang in there warrior, we are all cheering for you!! Xoxo

  2. Thanks for keeping us all updated. Sending big squeezy hugs to Hannah and to her mama! Not easy to watch our children moving through something so hard. But Hannah is a fighter just like her mama and her grandmother. Strong women make strong women. ❤️❤️❤️

  3. In those brief moments when the weights are removed, it must be very disorienting for you! It seems like suddenly losing or gaining 26 lbs. would throw off your balance a weird way, even if there is a momentary sense of relief. I don’t think that I’ve ever had that kind of experience.

I love the fact that you enjoyed a cuddle with Minnie Mouse AND also took joy in sinking your mother’s battleship! We are all an interesting mix. We want to love… and we want to kick butt. How nice that you had both in one day!
